Two road rules catch newcomers. Can I ride a scooter on my home country's licence?
Sometimes, with an international driving permit, and sometimes only after converting to a local licence — it depends on your nationality, your visa and the vehicle class. Check with the Motor Vehicles Office before you ride; rental shops will tell you what they accept, which isn't always the same thing.
What is a two-stage left turn?
At many junctions scooters can't turn left directly. You ride straight across, stop inside the painted waiting box (dàizhuǎnqū) facing the new direction, and go when that light turns green.
